Privacy
We keep as little about you as we can. This page says what, why and for how long.
Who we are
Lost Books
Netherlands
When you order
For an order we need your name, email address and postal address, and we keep which books you ordered and in which language. We use them to send your parcel, to email you the payment details and the tracking code, and for our bookkeeping. The carrier gets your name and address for the parcel; your bank transfer goes through your bank and ours. We keep orders for seven years, as Dutch law requires for a shop's books, and use them for nothing else: no newsletter, no profiling, no selling.
Cookies
We use a few cookies, only to make the shop work: your cart (lb_cart), where it goes (lb_country), the number of books in it for the top of the page (lb_cart_n), a coupon code you typed (lb_coupon), the language you chose (lb_lang), and — when you sign in to leave an absentee bid — your account session (lb_account). They last 30 days, the language a year. The layout you pick is kept by your browser itself (local storage). None of them follows you, is shared with anyone or needs your consent.
Visitor numbers
To know how many people visit and which pages they read, each page reports itself to our own server when it is shown: the page's address, the website you came from (just its name) and the width of your screen. We use no cookies for this and keep no IP addresses. To count a visitor once a day we keep a scrambled code made from your connection and browser with a key that is thrown away at the end of the day; after that the code can't be traced back to anyone, not even by us. No outside analytics service is involved. We keep these numbers for thirteen months.
Who else is involved
Cloudflare carries the traffic between you and our server and protects it against attacks; in doing so it processes your IP address, as any web host does. Book covers come from Open Library, but through our own server: your browser doesn't contact them.
Your rights
You can ask what we keep about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted where the law doesn't require us to keep it. Reply to any email we sent you. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
